Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. When she was a little girl, she struggled with an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered from anxiety because of the word association. Ford was first attracted to acting as a teenager and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. The school she was accepted to was Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just a few weeks, she realized this school wasn't suitable for her. Ford applied again to Central School of Speech and Drama and on the fourth time she applied she was eventually accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993. However, she already had her TV debut in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in the year 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre has led to her joining The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate was first noticed for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
